I want to thank Guillaume Brunet for inviting me to present at his E-marketing and E-commerce class at the Graduate Level (D.E.S.S.C.E.) at l’École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC Montréal) last saturday, October 12, 9AM.  It was a pleasure to meet the next generation of Web Professionals, the ones  ”About to rock the 2.0 field!”.

It was a pleasure to share the expertise I acquired in my almost 3 years of  work as a product manager at Yahoo! Québec and Yahoo! Canada, a year and a half for Quebecor and Canoe,  a few years in Guerrlla Marketing as a business owner in the music  and movie industries, a year in the Advertising Short Movies Film at Kissfilms, back in 2000 and a few years in Telcos.

Take a look at the impressive list of speakers from the Montreal Tech Community.
Here is the presentation. Most of it was me speaking to the crowd versus having a fully detailed powerpoint presentation.  Enjoy!

The Montreal Marketing Association First Conference that took place on October 8, 2008 on Innovation in Web 2.0 showcased four speakers prolific in their respective area of specialization. Hugh McGuire from Librivox broke the ice and presented the audio books community, then Stéphane Delbecque from Six Apart spoke about mobile and blogging technologies, Robyn Tippins from the Yahoo! Developer Network spoke about the application ecosystem and the openness around Yahoo! and the broad reach of the developer Network. Austin Hill  presented his innovative new reality-based startup Akoha.

Attendees feedback seem to all go in the same direction: ”That conference really was interesting, with diverse content and perspectives”. Whether the type of innovation that was forcasted was useful to certain attendees or not, all depends on the business they are in. Some attendees come from a more traditional enterprise background and some from 2.0 firms.

Stéphane Delbecque gracefully presented the type of Innovation that is put forward at Six Apart: ”Openness and Mobility”.

In his own words:

Web 2.0 is a deep change in the way internet users interact with each others, services, content and media. For the first time, people have the ability to express themselves and get their voice heard. This revolution resulted in acceleration in innovation, gave tools to anyone who’d want to build something and opened new opportunities for companies that would embrace it. For two guys and a dog in a garage, as well as companies such as Six Apart, innovation in Web 2.0 enlightened a strong need for openness (i.e. with OpenID and APIs) and took the form of a new vehicle, the mobile phone, which is the perfect tool for creating, consulting and sharing with friends, family and online services.
